Bunky and the Summer Wish by Aleksandra Tryniecka

Noah, the avid reader

Hey there, friends! It’s 11-year-old Noah here again.

Do you ever wonder what Santa and his reindeer do during the summer? That’s the thought that sparked my excitement when I picked up Bunky and the Summer Wish. Right from the start, Bunky’s world—full of fluffy friends, fantastical adventures, and heartwarming lessons—had me hooked. The idea of venturing to the North Pole in the middle of summer is not only unique but perfectly captures the spirit of childhood curiosity and endless imagination.

Bunky is such a relatable character. He’s curious, creative, and sometimes struggles with schoolwork, but his kindness and courage shine brightly. Whether he’s solving math problems in his own bunkyful way or painting a dinosaur for his best friend, Bunky makes you feel like you’re right there with him, exploring the wonders of his whimsical Walmland. The story balances humor, heart, and adventure, introducing delightful moments like a chance meeting with Santa’s reindeer or a visit to the Cave of Wisdom. It made me wonder: What could I discover if I were as brave and thoughtful as Bunky?

This book has everything: charming illustrations, quirky characters (a talking reindeer!), and creative twists that make it unforgettable. What I loved most was how it inspired me to dream big while staying true to myself. Bunky’s story shows that heroes can be found in the most unexpected places—even in our own hearts.

Whereas Aleksandra’s first book, Bunky and the Walms: The Christmas Story, is so relatable for everyone in the northern side of the equator, Bunky and the Summer Wish fits perfectly with the Aussie Christmas in summer vibe. The book combines the magical feel of Santa and the North Pole with a fun and sunny summer adventure, which is so relatable for kids who celebrate Christmas during the warmest time of the year. It’s whimsical, festive, and summery all at once—a perfect mix for Aussie readers!

If there’s any content parents might worry about, I didn’t spot anything concerning. This story is filled with warmth, friendship, and positivity, making it great for kids my age or younger.

Reading Bunky and the Summer Wish is like riding on a beam of sunlight into a world where everything magical feels possible.
